From Social Patterns

Jump to: navigation, search

In his book "Web Application Design Patterns", Pawan Vora counts it as a pattern, and actually from a user's perspective, this speeds up the process of building his network much and it is used widely in famous social apps like facebook and twitter.

All anti-patterns solve a problem to some extent, and you're right that this solves a problem for users as well as for the system, but at the cost of corroding people's security habits, which is why we (and the microformats community, among others) view it as an anti-pattern, something that "seemed like a good idea at the time" but that has more negative consequences than positive. --Xian 22:39, 14 September 2009 (UTC)
